March 3 is “Hinamatsuri,” the Girls’ Festival in Japan, when “hina” princess dolls are displayed in the hope that girls will grow up to be healthy. In Fukuoka Prefecture, the Yanagawa region celebrates the festival in a grand manner by displaying colorful “sagemon” hanging ornaments along with hina dolls. In the “Yanagawa Hina Festival Sagemon Meguri” starting this Friday, sagemon will be displayed at tourist facilities and stores in the shopping district until April 3, and events such as the “Ohinasama Water Parade” will also be held.
